_____
Students are expected to consult with prospective department or success center for
the major they are pursuing outside the College of Engineering. Completing the following
steps prompts ESSC College of Engineering Major Advising Hold removal for the term.
You will need to repeat this process every semester until you have been admitted to the new major. At that point, you will no longer receive the major advising hold from the College of Engineering.
Step 1: Complete the change of major advising process for your major of interest.
Depending on the department, this may include: meeting with a faculty advisor. attending a change of major workshop, using drop-in advising, or scheduling an appointment through Spartan Connect with a success center advisor.
Review the change of major requirements for your intended department to determine your next steps.
Step 2: Submit proof of advising to your ESSC advisor
After completing change of major advising for your intended major, email your assigned ESSC advisor to request removal of your advising hold.
In your email, include:
- Your SJSU Student ID
- Proof of your advising appointment or workshop attendance (e.g., screenshots of advising emails, notes from advisor, or appointment confirmations)
- The courses you need to take next semester to become eligible to apply for your new major
- The Fall or Spring term in which you plan to apply to change your major
Your ESSC advisor will verify your advising completion through Spartan Connect.
Important Notes
- Hold removal is not automatic and requires manual verification of change of major advising completion.
- Please allow 1 to 5 business days for hold removal.
- Missing or incomplete information in Step 2 will delay processing
